Fluked!
On March 29, we joined Realms of Wilderwhim at FLUKE!, an indie ‘zine and comics show at the famous 40 Watt in Athens GA. We met some fun people, made sales, and saw amazing art!
If you’ve never engaged with the Classic City (Athens), aside from football, that’s a shame. I’m of the opinion that Fluke epitomizes the town with its swath of personalities. It’s a fantastic snapshot of the creativity Athens boasts as its own. That said, I met people from all over the southeast who shared our passions for creating original works in affordable, small-scale publishing.
‘Zines are cool. They are intentionally ‘homemade,’ relying on photocopiers and simple binding (i.e. stapling). UT Austin describes them as “a small circulation publication,” often with a specific interest. Profit isn’t the intention; it’s sharing passions and ideas. I’ve noticed a number of libraries now keep ‘zine displays in special collections. The beauty of the ‘zine is that it’s cheap to produce and to buy.
We’re planning to Fluke again in 2026; head to Athens if you’d like to join us!
