Shadow Thoughts

Here’s the special Halloween edition of Making Waves!

I just got back from a nice trip to Omaha, Nebraska, to visit my adult son who is a student there. One of the admittedly “touristy” things we did was go to the Museum of Shadows.

It was $20 per person, and $10 extra if you wanted the black light or the hand-held sensor. We indulged.

The museum allows no photography. Inside, are about 3000 artifacts, many of them creepy-assed dolls. Other items of note include wacky medical equipment, edged weapons, and (the worst), a clown collection. I fled that room fast.

Was it worth (cough) $70? Maybe not. However, places like this can serve as intriguing inspiration for your games. The dolls made me wonder about how ‘children’ might look in the Monstrous Nativity (and gave me an idea for our upcoming video). I think visiting ‘bizarre local arcana’ is worth it, no matter where you head in the world. I can’t wait to see the Corn Palace in spring!

What weird places have you visited that inspired your games?
